 Abstract The overall goal of this project is to measure aerosol chemical species (sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, MSA, oxalate, organic diacids (C1 to C5), calcium, sodium and chloride ions) at Summit, Greenland for nearly a full year for two purposes: (1) to study deposition onto the Ice Sheet, to assist interpretation of ice cores and (2) to study atmospheric chemistry and thus identify sources, pathways, characteristics of the aerosol, and transformations during long-range transport. Further studies with other tracers will be carried out. Links with air mass trajectories and meteorological conditions will be established, and surface snow samples will be compared with snowpit layers.
