butter

Can you gain more than a pound of weight by eating some sufficiently caloric substance, like butter?
I argued that it was theoretically plausible.
Here is my analogy:
Take a chunk of magnesium. Set it on a scale. Allow it to burn. The scale will begin to register greater weight as the magnesium burns.
If people "burn" or "oxidize" butter or something analogous, perhaps the pound of butter be converted into more than a pound of animal tissue.
